Your historical explanation is terrible, my friend. You could have accessed this information with just a simple research. The Turkish state that ruled in Transoxiana, Afghanistan, northern India and Khorasan between 963-1186 The Ghaznavids took their name from the city of Ghazni, which they made their capital, which is still within the borders of Afghanistan. This dynasty is called Yemînis, referring to Mahmud-ı Gaznevi's nickname Yemînüddevle. They are also called Sebük Teginis, in reference to the father of the dynasty, Sebük Tigin.

Excellent informative video. I have recently uncovered what seems to be a Carnelian gemstone in a carved silver setting whilst metal detecting. The engraving is of a griffin with paw on a wheel and the silver frame is deeply carved in a floral type scroll. Unfortunately our local FLO does not seem able to help with identifying my find. Would you be able to help? Andy Krzykowski

The original icon was actually painted near Kyiv and consequently stolen by “Russia”. So-called "Russian icons" are just another example of colonial narrative. In fact, this style originated in Kyiv before the foundation of Moscow

No Mammoth was hurt by this or any similar Flint axe, which in reality was meant to be ground at the edge, meticulously hafted in a wooden shaft and used to work wood. Mammoths were long gone in Europe at that time ...

That’s not a solar disc on his head, it’s a lunar disc, as indicated by the crescent at the bottom. This means it’s not Ra-Horakhty, but is more than likely meant to be Khonsu.

"late 13c., faute, "deficiency," from Old French faute, earlier falte, "opening, gap; failure, flaw, blemish; lack, deficiency" (12c.), from Vulgar Latin *fallita "a shortcoming, falling," from Latin falsus "deceptive, feigned, spurious," past participle of fallere "deceive, disappoint" (see fail (v.)). The -l- was restored 16c., probably in imitation of Latin, but the letter was silent until 18c. Sense of "physical defect" is from early 14c.; that of "moral culpability" (milder than sin or vice, but more serious than an error) is first recorded late 14c." definitely brings a murkier meaning to the inscription

This caught my eye. This is from an external surface (sunken relief) but where and how did it get this extensive wear? You do not say. What was the context it was discovered in (a floor maybe?) that would shed some light on its current condition? "French collection, 1990s-early 2000s" does not tell us much about the collection history or actual origins. How did it leave Egypt, is there any documentation? What does the back look like? Has it been sawn off a larger block, or was it originally a slab? You do not say. The iconography is a bit weird isn't it? Did the artist intend to depict him with deformed shoulders and misshapen arms? Also the profile of the "wife" is rather poor, with piggy little eyes. If this is a seated figure and the horizontal lines are supposed to be their thighs (yes?) why do they look different from other reliefs of this period where a sceptre is shown, where the arm is above the thigh, not resting on it? Anyway, try and put your elbows on the top of your thighs while sitting on a stool. Where are the figure's bottoms? The ancient Egyptians were very fond of bottoms (aren't we all?) and it is odd that this couple were shown in such a bottomless form. This craftsman, whenever he lived was not very good, was he? As "art". it's all a bit gawky and odd looking. Perhaps that is why Mr Tim Wonnacott is so enamoured of it? I wonder who will end up buying it?
